£2m investment in new coaches for Go North East’s National Express operations

An investment of £2m by Go North East in nine of the latest tri-axle Scania Caetano Levante coaches has helped to improve future operations of National Express coach services from Newcastle.

Operated by Go North East – the largest bus operator in the North East – a total of 35 staff are involved in running the services from the company’s base in Chester-le-Street.  Running from Newcastle Coach Station, the coaches serve a number of destinations around the UK including Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Weymouth and Plymouth.

The new, 53-seat coaches offer the highest levels of customer comfort and, operating with Euro4 engines, provide one of the cleanest journeys available in coach travel.  Each coach has a dedicated space for one wheelchair and DDA compliant handrails at the front entrance.

Measuring 13.7 metres in length, the tri-axle coach delivers high standards of manoeuvrability, giving customers a smoother journey experience.  With leather-trimmed, reclining seats, tinted windows, air conditioning and LED dim night lamps the new vehicles offer superior quality coach travel.

Go North East Managing Director, Peter Huntley said, “We are proud of our investment in the most advance local buses available for our North East operations and can now also be proud of introducing, the latest in high quality, longer distance vehicles to National Express customers travelling from the North East.  Our staff provide an excellent service for National Express, frequently appearing at the top of their performance tables, and it is great to be able to make this investment and secure these jobs for the future.”

Alastair Coxon, Head of Contracts, National Express said, “National Express and its partners including Go North East will continue to invest in coach travel, making it ever more appealing to new customers and more comfortable and pleasing to our existing customers.  Our aim is to encourage people to leave their cars at home, and with new vehicles such as this with better facilities and good value prices we will look forward to welcoming people on board!”

Supplied by Scania (Great Britain) Limited, the new coaches will begin operation during July.
